Introducing Geoff Smethurst

Hi there, Wendy and I have been members of the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club for many years dating back to the early 2000's, before having a break from boating for a couple of years before we purchased our motor cruiser boat, Windormarr 11, which is penned at the cruiser club on Jetty 4. We have a keen interest in boating so much that we started our online business "Boat Hardware" back in 2013 and it continues to grow strong. www.boathardware.com.au regularly assists members with a range of solutions for their boating needs and we are more than happy to help. Being a member for some time now, I feel that I can step up and offer the club some of my knowledge and would like to stand for Rear Commodore at this year's AGM, working as part of the United Team. I am very keen to re-engage members and welcome new members into enjoying fantastic boating activities that the Gippsland Lakes has to offer thru safe and fun activities on the water. I have also done a fair bit of coastal cruising. I can remember my family and I enjoying overnight stays at Steamer Landing, BBQ's, cricket matches, poker runs just to name a few activities that the club use to run. I think that we can have a lot of fun together out on the water. I am a life member of my local fishing club; I am a family man with a lot of support, and I enjoy the Gippsland area.

Introducing Sue Grogan

Nominated for the position of Treasurer

Sue & Michael Grogan have been Members of the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club for the past 11 years and are keen boating people with their vessel located here at the marina.

Having current private industry experience with a financial background will bring the skills required for this important position and provide club members with confidence that governance obligations will be met.

Sue has had a 20 plus year career in banking, finishing as a Community Bank Manager. As a mother of three children was actively involved in outside activities (basketball & scouts) often holding various positions within committees, including Club President.

Current roles include Finance controller at a busy storage facility and casual Patient Transport Officer.

Certainly not afraid to cook a snag or peel some onions for the BBQ in the name of a good cause and work as part of the United Team.

See you on the Water ....

Chris Kleine

Att: Members of Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club Inc. (PMCC)

I am writing to express my interest in being nominated as a committee member of the PMCC.

I for one wish to see the club prosper into the future, as I believe it is an invaluable asset unique to the Gippsland lakes.

As part of my role in the committee I would like to see the club unite as one, be a place that is inviting to all members and guests and ensure the club is financially secure.

My background as a small business owner and holding similar positions within other committee's gives myself a sound set of skills to be able to meet the requirements of the position and serve the club well.

Thanking You for taking the time to consider my application and please feel free to contact me on the above mentioned to discuss further.

Chris Kleine

Sam Beechey

My association with the PMCC goes back 30 years, I was first elected on to the Committee some 25 years ago, I became Vice Commodore and then unanimously elected Commodore after only 6 weeks, when the Commodore died suddenly. I led a team that took the Club from being in financial stress for some 7 years, when I stepped down, the Club had no debt and around $97,000.00 in the Bank. During this time we had purchased a new Cool Room, Refrigerators Air Conditioning and the Balastrade on the front Deck. We catered for about 6 to 8 weddings per
year. We also have our own Boat Registration Numbers, from 1 through to 300.

The Club again got into some difficulties about 5 years later, I returned and with hard work and volunteers we made the club successful once more. Under my leadership, we had a peak membership of around 750 members. Our "On Water Events" were very successful. My intention is to make this Club great again. Re instigating events such as the "Blessing of the Fleet" and the "Annual Handover Dinner".

We have a very capable Team, ready to go, we stand as one, a united Team.

Brian Hinkley

I feel with the knowledge of Vice Commodore over the past 12 months 2023 to 2024, we moved some very large rocks out of the way, and we have improved many things for our members, things will improve further, with my background in sales as a National Sales Manager for a very large company and then moved into management in the electronic Technology Industry such as Printers and Photocopier's,
Also, in the past, I was the President of the Victorian Seniors Tenpin Bowling Organization for six years, which is very similar to running the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club.
I have a strong connection with Ex Commodores from Royal Melbourne Yacht Club, The Beaumaris Motor and Yacht Clubs and Warneet Motor Yacht Club.

My Mission
My mission is to take this club to an elevated level for our members, to leave their worries at the door and have a wonderful time and lots of fun in our fabulous venue.

Friday Night, Members Night
When you have had that hard week and now it's time to relax, we all enjoy our Friday night raffles. Our new Mega Raffle which we have introduced will include a Cocktail of your choice, and of course our popular members cash drawer and we will have more and more coming to create a fabulous Friday Members Night.
I am going to have more boating activities this year, than ever before.
We have great food at the new Island Views Restaurant.
Who are going to offer take away picnic baskets for our members.
My vision also, is to improve our membership and build a club that you will all be proud of and want to have your private functions here with your friends and families.
I believe we should have a function manager as this has to be a major part of increasing our finances, which we will all benefit from.
Increase our music nights, Saturday's & Sunday sippers.
This Club has a great future under my commodore ship, we have a venue that is second to none, we will have great times and fun on the way, our members deserve a committee they are proud to have and fun to be with.
We need to move into 2025 and put the past to bed. As you all know you cannot change history, but you must change to grow.
BECAUSE THE MOST CONSITANT THING IN LIFE IS CHANGE AND IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE YOU GET LEFT BEHINED.

Richard Sparks

Hello my name is Richard Sparks I'm 72 years old married to Luanne for 44 years, have two children in their 40s, with 4 grandchildren ages between 1-10, having been on many committees including kindergarten, sporting, cubs and primary and secondary schooling on all levels fund raising, building and social events.
On a personal level I've been in the building industry for over 45 years running my own plastering and renovating company, having retired now to spend time with my family and my passion for boating.
My connection with the Gippsland Lakes is very long infact I was 5 years old when my parents showed me the love of fishing and nurturing the environment, continues with my children and now the joy of being a grandparent passing on the passion to appreciate the sea and the beautiful life the Lakes offer.
I believe the future of this club is family and the next generation and to create memories forever and fun times as a team effort.
After all these years I've finally had the opportunity to purchase a boat about 12 months ago now, it's now proudly lives at Jetty 5 next to the PMCC and we love it here, having met so many new friends at the club that share the same future for the club.
This club has no doubt a huge potential to grow and be the place to be very proud of, offering genuine friendships, fun activities for all the family young and old, entertainment and great food and wine
I'm very keen to offer my experience and help in any way for a great pmcc future

Steve Waddell

My Mission as Vice Commodore
I live at Eagle Point with my wife Tracey, we have been running a successful business here for the past three years.
I was born in Bairnsdale and grew up in Sarsfield on the banks if the Nicholson River. The family owned a cruiser, and we would travel over to the Grange for summer holidays in the family holiday home. I have very fond memories our time cruising on the lakes and enjoying the tranquillity of Ocean Grange.
I am the Secretary of another club (SSAA) and have been for the past 2 years, prior to taking on the role of Secretary, I was the President/Secretary for 4 years. The nominated Secretary stopped turning up at meetings and events, so I stepped up.
The East Gippsland Branch of SSAA has 1,141 members with a national membership of over 200,000.
I have served on the committee of Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club for almost one year and have learnt a lot about the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club in that year.
Tracey and I have attended the Friday members nights, assisted with the running of the raffle and have also volunteered our time when required by the club.
With our business, we sponsor the members raffle every week and have done since becoming members.
Over the last couple of months, I saw a short coming in the email system of the club and took it upon myself to improve that very system. I have spent many hours communicating with members, getting their correct email address and listening to their concerns in an effort to rebuild the relationship between the committee and members.
As Vice Commodore, I will continue to improve the email system and work with the Commodore and Committee to improve the functioning of the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club.
I believe the Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club is a fantastic venue for our members and the wider community, there are not many venues, with a better view.
Together you, me, The Commodore and Committee can increase the club membership and make ours the best Motor Cruiser Club in Vi-ctoria.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve you, the members of The Paynesville Motor Cruiser Club.
